1) "John Smith Hurt, who was to become Mississippi John Hurt, [...] was reportedly born on March 8, 1892 (grave marker), March 16, 1892 (Social Security Death Index), May 7, 1893 (some family members), or May 8, 1895 (draft registation). The most likely date, according to his grandnephew Fred Bolden who remembers celebrating his uncle's birthday, is March 8." (Philip R.Ratcliffe: Mississippi John Hurt - His Life, His Times, His Blues.- Jackson (University Press of Mississippi) 2011 Other - obviously even more dubious - dates can be found here: July 2, 1892 (www.msjohnhurtmuseum.com/mjhbio.html) and July 3, 1893 (www.bluesworld.com/blues/0703.html) Fazit: Birthday March 8, 1892 (as on grave marker) most likely !!!
