1) Bob Eagle @ facebook (The Real Blues Forum), February 26, 2014: "Will the real Walter Davis please stand up? [...] The rumor was that the Walter Davis who died on 22 October 1963 in St Louis had been born in 1896/ 1900. That is not quite right - that man died on 16 October 1963 and was *buried* on 22 October 1963. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery (Hillsdale, outside St. Louis City). I believe there is now a headstone erected to the blues singer there - and unfortunately it seems to be erected over the wrong man. The Walter who died on 22 October 1963 is also problematic. He is shown as being born on 1 February 1926, and as aged 37 at death. Now, obviously he could not be recording in 1930 if he had been born in 1926. Either the birth date is wrong, or it is not "our" Walter. The name of his wife also differs from other information I have, although he could have remarried. However the parents' names agree with the information from his social security file, and it looks as if he simply had lied to his wife about his age. This Walter was buried at Washington Park Cemetery (Berkeley, MO), but in 1999 he was relocated to Calvary Cemetery, a huge Catholic Cemetery in St. Louis (5239 W. Florissant Avenue). He is now in Section 37 Lot 559 Grave 2. (Because of the relocation, Calvary's records show him as having *died* in 1999). To sum up, it looks as if he *is* the man who died on 22 October 1963 (as per the headstone) but he is buried elsewhere, away from the headstone!"
2) Bob Eagle @ facebook (The Real Blues Forum), November 15, 2020:"Walter was initially buried at Washington Park Cemetery, 4650 James S. McDonald Boulevard, Berkeley, Missouri 63134, but in August 1999 his coffin was removed to Calvary Cemetery, a large Catholic cemetery at 5239 West Florissant Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63115-1460 - phone (314) 381-1313 - where he is buried in Section 37 Lot 559 Grave 2. A gravestone has been erected at the site by The Killer Blues Headstone Project."
Walter Davis suffered a stroke in 1952 that ended his career. This picture of him working as a switchboard operator was taken in 1960 in St. Louissource: ; photographer: Paul Oliver
